1. WELCOME Back Educators!
This week's topic (which was sparked by an email from Judy M.) is:
What should I consider when forwarding email?
Email. We all get it...and we all forward "gems" to our friends, family, and
co-workers!
But there are two important reasons to "edit" your email before forwarding:
The first, and most important, reason to "edit" your email is out of
consideration for the privacy of others. When you receive an email, (just to
you...or forwarded to you), and you decide to forward it to others, you
should delete all email addresses and personal comments contained in the
email. The reason for this may be obvious, but the person or persons who
sent it may not want their email address/comments to be viewed by others. So
as a rule, I always delete other people's addresses and comments before
forwarding.
The second reason to "edit" email is a product of the first. By deleting the
(often long) list of email addresses and comments, your receivers will not
have to scroll through all the "clutter" to get to your intended text. I
know I greatly appreciate it!
Note: This is easily accomplished by first pressing "forward," within your
email program, then highlight and delete as you wish before sending the
message.
Thanks Judy M. & Happy Emailing!

and exciting educational technology topics for both the "newbies" and the
"savvy." I'll showcase the very best in educational websites as well as tips
on how to find exactly what YOU need! I'll also reveal more exciting
initiatives we have planned to make EduHound.com everything YOU need it to
be!

2. EduHound Spotlight of the Week!
In honor of our fabulous site designer, Holly, (who brought this site to my
attention) this week's featured site is:
Our Timelines.com -
http://www.ourtimelines.com
This free to use web site generates truly fascinating personalized time
lines for you, based on your year of birth. They show how your life (or the
life of anyone else you choose - for instance, your descendants and
ancestors) fits into history as we know it.
You can generate as many timelines as you like. If you're into creating web
pages, you can even take the timelines we generate for you here and put them
on your own pages - an unmatched personal touch everyone will enjoy.
In addition, you can insert up to ten, custom, color-coded personal time
segments (events or ranges) in a time line. These might include schooling,
marriages, births, job assignments, military service and so forth.
For families, or educators, this is a wonderful tool to use to enlighten
children as to what went on in their lifetime, or another relative's
lifetime. You'll understand this as soon as you try the site out!
Share it with everyone!

4. Ask Judi!
This week's question comes from Sherry:
"I am a Daycare provider and was wanting some information on Government
Grants for small businesses?"
Great question, Sherry! This question is something I am often asked. And the
answer is not an easy one. Each individual/business has very specific needs,
and grants can run from the "general" to the "highly detailed" in their
requirements. But the good news is...they ARE out there! Just put on your
detective hat and start looking!
Here are some sites to help in your search, as well as general/educational
grant sites:
Small Business Administration - http://www.sba.gov - Here you'll find
services provided by the U.S. Small Business Administration Offices and
Partners. I did a search for "daycare business" and came up with several
articles with excellent information.
**I contacted the SBA and they said, "Try contacting your state economic
development office for information on state loans and grant programs."
Polaris Grants Central - http://www.polarisgrantscentral.net/ - This site
provides free basic information in the form of directories, lists, hints and
tips, resources, and articles for grant seekers including: Non-profit
Organizations, Associations, United Ways, Community Based Organizations,
Educational Institutions, etc.
U.S. Department of Education Grants and Contract Information -
http://gcs.ed.gov/
Information on grant and other programs at the Department, grant programs
requesting applications, regulations for administering grant programs, and
information for new grants seekers explaining the whats and hows of grants
at the Department.
Good Luck and Keep those questions coming!
Each week, I'll use this area to answer several questions that have been
streaming in from YOU! As the saying goes, "If you have a question or
comment, chances are that others have it too!" So please write us at
mailto:EduHoundWeekly@eduhound.com and watch for your answer here!
