Following a settlement between unions and the New Zealand Ministry of
Education area school principals can have a collective employment
contract.

New Zealand Principals' Federation president Geoff Lovegrove said
principals throughout the country were dealing with social, health and
learning problems in children which should have been identified and,
addressed before they turned 5. Principals want childcare advisers to
make regular home visits for children from birth until primary school in
a bid to tackle childhood problems before they reach school.

This year there have been three cases where young female teachers have
been afraid to leave their classrooms at Hastings Central School, North
Island, during the weekend after being abused and threatened by groups of
teenage skateboarders. As a result the school has given its teachers
cellphones so they can ring for help.

New Zealand. The teenage years have always been a tumultuous time, but
the current trends can be very disturbing. Thirty years ago, it was

seems to have set in.

call Boards of Trustees. NZSTA, the parent body of the School Trustees
Association would be well placed to run a Roadshow in its 11 regions
that can stimulate trust in our system and motivate teachers and learners
to lift our learning achievement to higher levels...
