Subject: [DUC] INFO/NYT: General Electric Buys A Chalkboard and Starts a
Websitefor Teaching Money and Financial Planning Skills to Adults

REGARDING A NEW YORK TIMES ARTICLE WITH LINK AND EXCERPT BELOW:

A great deal of attention has been paid to adult illiteracy
and the need for adults to read. The internet has made the need to teach
literacy skills stronger because, unlike television, the ability to read
is very important to using the internet. Now other areas of adult
knowledge gaps are becoming targeted by efforts to teach on the internet.
One such area is financial planning and personal finance. General
Electric is described in this article brief as creating a website that
helps individuals and families explore their current financial position
and learn the skills for handling money for present and future goals such
as retirement. Since this is an article consisting of brief coverage of
several news stories, there is also coverage in this article of cellular
phone charges and a new advice service from Estelle Harris, an actress who
performed on the Jerry Seinfeld program.

COMPRESSED DATA
G.E. Joins Effort to Advance Financial
Literacy

Ensure if your financial plan will put your children through college?
Don't really know how a mutual fund works?

General Electric feels your pain. On Tuesday, GE will introduce the GE
Center for Financial Learning, a Web site:

http://www.financiallearning.com

to battle what GE calls a "financial literacy crisis."

The site will offer advice from an advisory board of outside experts
on subjects like retirement planning and tax management. It will feature
questionnaires that measure consumers' financial acumen, as well as
self-paced courses on investments, mutual funds and insurance.
