Project Title: We All Scream For Ice Cream

Project Summary:
Do your tastes reflect where you live? Killian Elementary 3rd grade
students are
trying to determine if where people live influence what flavors of ice
cream are
the most popular. Help us find out what flavors are popular in different
parts of the
U.S. and the world.

Full Project Description:
1. Students will conduct a survey of their class' five
favorite ice cream flavors. They will then design a
pictograph and/or a bar graph to display the data.
2) Students will then conduct a second survey using the list of flavors from
the
ice cream industry. They will make a pictograph or bar graph of data from
step 2.
3) The class will then e-mail their data and/or pictograph or bar graph
to Killian students.
4) Killian students will compile and compare all of data received from all
participants and email the results back to the participants.
Steps for gathering data from your class:
Step 1 - Conduct survey #1
Ask the question. "What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?"
They write it on a slip of paper and turn it in. From these responses pick
the 5 most popular flavors.
Step 2 - Take the five most popular flavors from the first survey and have
the children rank them in order from favorite to least favorite.

Step 3. - Have the students rank the industry's top five flavors in order
from their favorite to least favorite.

Step 4: - e-mail the results of these surveys to mhedrick@ke.richland2.org

Objectives:
Students will compare favorite flavors according to location. Students will
use math
skills to collect data, organize it, make a pictograph and/or bar graph to
display
and interpret the information.
Students will identify where the information is received from on a map.
They will analyze what flavors are popular in what areas of the country or
world.
Students will depict the results of their findings in graph form.
