Subject: [TeachersCorner] "Read Across America" chat series -- Barbara Park

From: Chris Lenois <excerpt@tenagra.com>

Barbara Park, author of the much loved Junie B. Jones books, as well as
many critically-acclaimed books for children including "Mick Harte was
Here," "The Kid in the Red Jacket" and "Skinnybones," will be the second
guest for our "Read Across America" chat series. Created by the National
Education Association, "Read Across America" is a celebration of the
richness that comes into our lives from learning to read. In support of
"Read Across America", Target Stores' Take Charge of Education program is
sponsoring an online chat series with popular children's authors from
Random House's Children's Media Group. The second chat in the "Read Across
America" series is March 9th and continues March 16th, and 23rd. The
line-up includes:

* March 9 Barbara Park (Junie B. Jones Series)
* March 16 Lois Lowry (The Giver, The Anastasia Series)
* March 23 Mary Pope Osborne (Magic Tree House Series)

All chats take place Thursday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. (ET) at Talk City's
EduCenter:

Talk City's EduCenter is an online educational forum dedicated to enriching
the learning experiences of students and educators alike. The "Read Across
America" Chat Series is open to all who want to attend: parents, teachers,
children, writers -- everyone. The chats will be moderated by the
EduCenter's professional staff of teachers and parents to insure a safe and
rewarding chat experience for
all who attend. Special "activity sheets," a letter from "Junie" and a
trivia quiz -- designed to make reading Junie B. Jones books an enriching
experience -- can be found at http://www.randomhouse.com/kids/junieb/.

A set of tips has been created for teachers trying to integrate online
chats in the classroom. If you'd like to get these, just send
mailto:excerpt@tenagra.com with the subject line, "Send Teacher Tips" and I
will reply with a text file. We hope you spread the news about this
exciting opportunity to celebrate "Read Across America" with America's
favorite children's authors.

Thank you!
