INFOSEEK INTRODUCES INFOSEEK ULTRA

Next Generation Search Technology Delivers Accurate, Up-to-Date Results.

SANTA CLARA, CA - August 14, 1996
Infoseek Corporation today unveiled Infoseek Ultra, an innovative
new search technology designed to provide users with the easiest,
most efficient way to find information on the Internet and the
World Wide Web. Infoseek Ultra, which was previously code-named
Ultraseek, offers a new approach to information retrieval that
provides users unprecedented levels of accuracy, currency,
comprehensiveness and speed. A public beta version of Infoseek
Ultra is available immediately from the above-listed Internet site.

Through its new, intelligent spider technology (the core technology
used to find Web pages), Infoseek Ultra is the first search service
to provide a virtual real-time index of the Internet, ensuring users
that consumers receive the most up-to-date information available on
their topic. The intelligent super spider, which loads pages based
upon how often they change, also filters out the millions of dead
and duplicate links that exist on the Internet.

Infoseek Ultra's search engine runs on a single Sun Microsystem Ultra
Enterprise 4000. The new Infoseek Ultra engine and the Sun technology
combine to make Infoseek Ultra one of the fastest Internet search engines
available today. In addition to returning results instantly, Infoseek
Ultra's speed enables Infoseek to provide a new set of search features,
such as automatic proper name and phrase recognition, that make
searching more intuitive.

Up-to-Date Content

The Internet is a truly dynamic environment that changes and expands
every day. Unfortunately, today's search engine technology is often
weeks, if not months out of date. As a result, users doing searches
on recent news topics, such as the TWA Flight 800 crash or 1996
election coverage, do not receive the latest information available.
To solve this problem, Infoseek has built new super spider technology
designed to detect new and changed pages and update the index in
real-time based on how often pages change. Infoseek Ultra is the
only search service that provides a virtually real-time index of the
World Wide Web, ensuring they are seeing the Internet as it is today
and not as it looked last week.

In building its index, Infoseek found more than 80 million unique
URLs. Infoseek has evaluated the full text of 50 million plus URLs
to date and has filtered out duplicate pages and dead links in order
to find unique content. 15 million of these pages are of unique
content, according to Infoseek.

Infoseek Ultra is a free service available to all Internet users.
