It's a place for those who like to have fun with the English language and to
explore its many twists and turns...and a place to discuss and debate
cultural differences in language and, through language, communication.
A place for sharing and discussing quotations, poetry, puns, insults, slang,
slogans, idioms, literary humor, eponyms, colloquialisms, acronyms and the
etymology of words...all grist for the Gobbledegook mill!
This list is about exploring those words and phrases, and the cultures from
which they sprang...the how, the why, the way, the meaning...and in doing so
to hopefully foster better communication and understanding between all who
participate.
What the list is *not* about, is being a place for those who want to be
pedantic about grammar, punctuation and usage. Our language is a living
being that constantly evolves, more so now than ever as the ability to
communicate between cultures becomes easier by the day. The key word is
communication...
One last word of warning...this list is not for the thin-skinned.
Be prepared to express your views strongly...to argue your point
intelligently...to explain your position logically and with force...and be
prepared to listen as well... none of us, least of all me, know it all.
This is a place for people who love words...all words...and for those who
know how to use them. If that's you...then you will be very welcome at
Gobbledegook.
