[SPTUsers] permissions problems

Hello,

My name is Michael Salmons. I'm trying to get up to speed with SPT as quickly as I can. We've installed the SPT on a Linux server (RedHat 6) with Apache 1.3.27 patched to support PHP 4.3.2, and MySQL 3.23.56-1 is loaded and running as well. Problem is, the box was quite secure to begin with, and I've never been able to see the SPT homepage properly: instead I see a bunch of permission denied errors from session_start, and the system is unable to write session data of any sort. I'm trying to figure out what user needs access to what directories and on what level. I have yet to see this info in any SPT docs. Can anyone either point me to the proper reference, or summarize this info for me?
