View Resource Annual Estimates of Global Anthropogenic Methane Emissions: 1860-1994

David Stern and Robert Kaufmann, of the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies at Boston University, provide "the first estimates," by year, of human-made methane emissions from seven sources, including gas flaring, coal mining, and biomass burning. Data are available in ASCII or binary spreadsheet formats, and a graph shows the rise in methane emissions from 1860 to 1994. The site explains...

View Resource Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Record from Flask Measurements at Lampedusa Island

Air samples from Lampedusa Island, located south of Sicily in the Mediterranean sea, were collected weekly from May 1992 through December 2000 and analyzed for carbon dioxide content. "On the basis of annual averages calculated from monthly averages, CO2 levels at Lampedusa Island have risen from 360.80 in 1993 to 371.27 in 2000. The data show an average trend of +1.5 ppmv/y." The data from the...

View Resource Carbon Dioxide, Hydrographic, and Chemical Data Obtained During the R/V Akademik Ioffe Cruise in the South Pacific Ocean (WOCE Section S4P, February-April 1992)

This site was prepared by the Carbon Dioxide Information Analysis Center at the Oak Ridge National Labratory and makes available carbon dioxide, hydrographic, and chemical data obtained during the R/V Akademik Ioffe cruise in the South Pacific Ocean in 1992. An overview of the data provides background information, description of the variables and methods, and references. A description of the...

View Resource Direct Experiments on the Ocean Disposal of Fossil Fuel CO2

_Science_ has published an article, Direct Experiments on the Ocean Disposal of Fossil Fuel CO2, discussing a recent experiment conducted by scientists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute and Stanford University. The goal of this radical and ambitious experiment was to directly dispose carbon dioxide (produced due to burning fossil fuels) in the cold and high-pressure environment of...

View Resource NASA Goddard Institute: Hansen and Sato 2001

The NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS), which is under the direction of Dr. James Hansen, conducts basic research in space and earth sciences. A recent publication by Dr. Hansen and Mki. Sato, entitled Trends of Measured Climate Forcing Agents, found (in part) that a "remarkable deceleration in the growth rate of GHG climate forcing occurred in the past 20 years." The report explains...
