The Census Bureau has recently posted Population Division Working Papers No. 24 on its website. The paper, written by Kristin E. Smith, Loretta E. Bass, and Jason M. Fields, provides figures from four areas of child well-being: early childhood experiences, parent-child interaction, school-age enrichment activities, and children's academic experience.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics site offers data on the employment characteristics of American families. The statistics include data on employment and unemployment in families by race, relationship, sex, marital status, presence of children in the family, and presence of children under three, among others. The data can be accessed from a table of contents or reviewed in an extensive news release.

The US Census Bureau has released a report which demonstrates that "traditional families" (married couples with children) have begun to stabilize as a percentage of all families in the 1990s, and the growth of single-parent families has slowed. Preliminary data from the Marital Status and Living Arrangements survey is available from the Census Bureau. At the site users may also view previous annual reports, which contain limited detail tables for states and some metropolitan areas.

On October 18, the National Center for Health Statistics released a new report tracking trends and patterns in nonmarital births.
