EQUITY IN STEM EDUCATION

We develop and study educational approaches that promote equity and social justice in STEM education.

RESEARCH-PRACTICE PARTNERSHIPS

We engage in mutually-beneficial collaborations among learning scientists, educators, community members, and STEM professionals.

EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND INNOVATION

We conduct research on how to create meaningful learning experiences, foster inclusive instruction, and improve capacity through partnerships.

Institute for Science + Math Education

All young people should be able to decide their own futures.

The University of Washington Institute for Science + Math Education creates partnerships to envision, cultivate, and study equity-focused educational models and practices in areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

The opportunity to learn in STEM fields is critical to young people’s ability to shape their futures and their present. To broaden opportunities for young people, we develop innovative projects across the K-12 grade span in both formal and informal learning environments. We closely study these projects to develop knowledge about how to broaden participation in STEM.
