Proven and Proactive Math and Financial Literacy Programs

The Actuarial Foundation provides a wide range of free programs and resources that engage students with real-world situations to improve their math skills and their confidence.

When students use our programs, we move them away from the routine memorization of complex formulas to using numbers as tools to ask creative questions, see the world’s patterns and ultimately, think logically to solve problems. 

Free Math Tutoring

Math Motivators

Math Motivators is a volunteer-driven math tutoring program that offers free virtual and in-person math tutoring to underserved students in grades 3-12 who need and want tutoring but otherwise cannot afford it. Math Motivators primarily focuses on Algebra 1 and pre-Algebra, but can support any math subject, including AP Calculus. We also offer a free prep program for the math section of the SAT and ACT.

Scholarship Program

STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program

The STEM Stars Actuarial Scholars Program offers high school seniors a scholarship of $20,000 ($5,000 annually for four years). Along with financial support, it includes mentoring, tutoring, immersion experiences and exposure to internships and job shadowing opportunities.

High School Math Competition

Modeling the Future Challenge

The Modeling the Future Challenge is a real-world, mathematical analysis competition for high school students culminating in a national Symposium and up to $60,000 in college scholarships, prizes and awards.

Free Financial Literacy Tutoring

Money Mentors

The Money Mentors tutoring program empowers young people to make conscious choices about their resources, time, and energy. We focus on the basics of thinking about money coming in and money going out, and we avoid getting bogged down in details that aren’t relevant or practical. We strive for growth and discovery.

Free Curriculum | Personal Finance

Building Your Future

The Building Your Future series helps students easily grasp the essentials of personal finance, gives them multiple opportunities to practice core skills and showcases the real-world impact of the financial decisions they make. This resource features both student resources and teacher guides.

Middle School Math Competition

The Hardest Math Problem Student Contest

The Hardest Math Problem Student Contest is an annual competition presented by The Actuarial Foundation, its educational partner Scholastic, and the New York Life Foundation that challenges students in grades 6-8 to solve multistep, grade-specific math problems with real-world situations and engaging characters. Fifth graders are also eligible to participate by reaching to a higher grade level!

Expect the Unexpected With Math

The dynamic lessons and activities in the Expect the Unexpected With Math series use storylines that students find interesting to show them the fun and relevance of math. Motivate your students in grades 6-8 to achieve math success in the classroom and in real-world situations outside of school!
