Excellent satellite images of wildfires
These observations may be accessed by when they occurred or where they occurred. Unfortunately time did not permit complete examination of all available data, some significant fires are not included, some very small fires are. However this web site will give a good idea of what kind of observations are possible with the NOAA weather satellite AVHRR sensors.

Access observations by time
Observations from each satellite pass grouped together. This makes it easy to see what was happening at a certain time.

Access observations by geographic area
Observations from geographic areas grouped together. This makes it easy to see what was happening at a certain location.

Satellite Observations of Forest Fires

A tutorial introduction to some of the best imagery on this site. Follows a number of fires as they progress and discusses what is seen in the images. A surprising amount of detail is visible once the eye is trained to see it.
