Age Determination Methods for Northwest Atlantic Species

February 28, 2020

This manual documents age determination techniques used by staff at the Woods Hole Laboratory to conduct age and growth studies and determine the age of various species from the New England and the Mid-Atlantic region.

This is the full text of the 1988 manual describing methods for 18 species, including quality images. There is also an online version of the manual, with some updated chapters.

Many techniques have changed since this was first published, but only some chapters have been updated to reflect current methods. A new edition will be forthcoming. In the meantime, please contact Eric Robillard for more information.
