The Catalog of the Scientific Community in the 16th and 17th Centuries is "a collection of 631 detailed biographies on members of the scientific community during the 16th and 17th centuries with vital facts about each individual and their contributions to science." Provided by the Galileo Project of Rice University, the biographies include everything from their date of birth and death, to their education, work history, and much more. Searches can be done using name, nationality, scientific discipline, means of support, and religion, among other criteria. Even though portraits or photographs of the individuals are not offered, the site does do a good job of presenting an interesting collection of facts about those who have significantly contributed to the scientific world.
