This week's In the News looks at the antitrust suits filed against Microsoft by the US Justice Department and attorneys general from 20 states and the District of Columbia. On May 18, 1998, the Department of Justice and attorneys general from 20 states and the District of Columbia filed antitrust suits against Microsoft alleging that Microsoft used its monopoly power in the operating system market to strengthen its hold on the Internet browser market. Microsoft's CEO Bill Gates argued that the case is without merit and defended his company's right to innovate.
