Educators looking to incorporate current events into their teaching may be interested in Decoding Elections: Process, Persuasion & Participation, a collection of lesson plans created by NewseumED. These eleven lesson plans are grouped into one of three categories: election procedures, campaign messages, and public participation. Each 30-60 minute lesson is based on a case study accompanied by primary source artifacts from the Newseum's collections for illustration and each case study includes an issue summary, historical context, and guiding questions. In their note to teachers, NewseumED suggests beginning with their nonpartisan political personality quiz focused on engagement with the electoral process. The lesson plans in this collection are primarily intended for middle and high school students, but they could be adapted for use in undergraduate classes. It should be noted that a free login is required for full access to all the resources. NewseumED is the educational department of Newseum, the journalism museum in Washington, D.C.
