This substantial new Website from the National Gallery of Art is based on an exhibit at the National Gallery in Washington, DC that "brings together twenty-seven of the finest surviving Baroque architectural models made in Europe between 1600 and 1750." The site allows users to look at many of these models as well as sketches, floor plans, and photographs of surviving structures. Separate sections examine European Baroque Architecture's flowering in Rome, in the construction of royal palaces, churches and chapels, and private residences as well as in civic, commercial and military architecture. Informative textual and audio description accompany the images, providing the user with an excellent primer on this heady period in European architectural design.
