Environmental Processes that Affect Mineral Deposits in the Eastern United States

This site offers a handout recently released from the USGS that focuses upon issues of acid mine drainage. The text emphasizes that remediation techniques must be tailored to a site's specific climatic and hydrologic setting. Preliminary research results on the following localities are discussed: Bald Mountain, Maine; Fontana and Hazel Creek Mines, Great Smoky Mountains; the Vermont Copper Belt; and Contrary Creek and Prince William Forest Park, Virginia.
