The US Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) provides this site with the purpose of supplying "critical unbiased scientific information on the fate of carbon dioxide in the environment to contribute to the ongoing public dialogue." The USGCRP's focus for the fiscal year 2000 is on determining the location, magnitude, and use of carbon sinks in North America.
