This annual report from the State Department is submitted to Congress to each year in compliance with the International Religious Freedom Act (IRFA) of 1998. This year's report gives information on religious freedom in 195 economies from the period July 1, 2000 to June 30, 2001. The summary is divided into three parts -- Barriers to International Religious Freedom, Positive Developments in International Religious Freedom, and U.S. Action to Promote International Religious Freedom -- and should give a useful overview for any readers interested in issues of human rights and religious practices in other countries. The body of the report consists of information on individual countries (grouped by region) including Religious Demography, Status of Religious Freedom, Societal Attitudes, and U.S. Government Policy. Among the five appendices are an Overview of U.S. Refugee Policy and an appendix devoted to The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and the International Religious Freedom Act.
