Arabic Fiction

The International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF) is considered by many to be the most prestigious literary prize in the Arab world. Modeled on the Man Booker Prize, each year five judges, drawn from the prominent ranks of Arabic literary critics, writers, and academics, read about 100 books and then decide on a long list, a short list, and a winner. In addition to the prize, IPAF commits a good deal of effort to translating and promoting contemporary Arabic fiction and poetry internationally. On the website, readers may peruse About the Prize to understand the ins-and-outs of this important literary institution. Readers may also like to browse Previous Years for an extended look at the books that were listed or won prizes going back to IPAF's founding in 2008.
