Based at the graduate school of Education and Information at the University of California, Los Angeles, the Higher Education Research Institute "serves as an interdisciplinary center for research, evaluation, information, policy studies, and research training in postsecondary education." It is also the home of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP), a national longitudinal study of the American higher education system. Established in 1966 at the American Council on Education, the CIRP is "the nation's largest and oldest empirical study of higher education, involving data on some 1,700 institutions and over 10 million students." Visitors to the site can access extensive press releases and data summaries of the latest CIRP's of incoming freshmen as well as data from surveys targeting entering students, other classes of college students, and faculty members. The CIRP Archives section offers an extensive annotated bibliography of related conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, and reports.
