I am trying a 2.4.0 to 3.1.1 upgrade. I followed the upgrade instructions.

The installation is faling with:

CWIS 3.1.1 Installation

Errors Encountered:

Could not create database.

Please correct these problems and re-run the installation.

Since it's an upgrade, I don't really want it to create a database anyway ... what could be going on?

Never mind - the client maintains their own server, and thus also the database users and their permissions.

For this particular site the DB user simply did not have create permission. The client changed that and the upgrade completed now.

Glad to hear you got it straightened out, though it's odd that that error message came up. It should only give that error if the specified database couldn't be found and the attempt to create it failed.
